Melges 14 Eurocup, on the first day there is only one leader 

Santa Marinella (Rome), 2 October 2021 - The first day of the EuroCup, flagship event for the Melges 14 Class within the international Melges World League seasonal circuit, got underway today in Santa Marinella, on the Italian coast of Lazio, not far from Rome.

Three races completed by the fleet, which immediately identified Giampiero Poggi as the only, solid and undisputed leader of the day: with three victories in the three races sailed, Poggi dominates the standings with a total of three points.

The games in the rest of the ranking are much more balanced: the first six sailors in the standings, with the exception of the leader, are packed in a margin of only five points: second place therefore for Alessio Muciaccia (10 pt), followed by Mario Aquila ( 11 pt), Luca Antonini (13 pt) and Luca Angelini (15 pt), Davide Di Maio (16 pt).

Today's condition challenged the owners of this exciting and sporty dinghy initially with a South-Easterly breeze well spread out at 10-12 knots of intensity, then gradually decreasing and rotating towards the East during the afternoon.

Tomorrow, races will resume at 11.30: the Melges 14 fleet will be once again challenged to give its best, given the forecasts of wind and wave and, perhaps, some possible storm front on the race course.
