The Melges 14 and Melges 20 fleets are ready for a new event in Portovenere
Portovenere (Italy), 16 September 2020 - It is already time to return to racing for the Melges 20 and Melges 14 fleets which, after a very short summer break, will resume their Championships tomorrow, proving once again to be among the most dynamic classes of a sailing scene that this year has suffered from severe slowdowns due to the pandemic.
For this new seasonal appointment, the Melges 20 and Melges 14 will make a stop in Portovenere, a location dear to Melges sailors and that in recent years has hosted exciting events of the international Melges World League circuits.
In the Gulf of Poets, close to the city of La Spezia, in a weekend that will consist of a total of four days of racing, first the Melges 20 (from Thursday 17 to Saturday 19) and then the Melges 14 (Saturday 19 and Sunday 20) will get on the water.
The regattas will be competitive, with high-level crews: among the Melges 20, in fact, all the most of the crews that marked the history of the Class will be present, including the reigning European Champions on Brontolo, the multi-champions aboard Russian Bogatyrs, and also Nika, Raya, Sease, Gone Squatching and Fremito d'Arja, to name a few. Tur..tle by Vittorio di Giacomo will not miss either, at his second regatta aboard the Melges 20.
The Melges 14 class is also confirmed as solid and growing: in Portovenere it will call sixteen helmsmen back to the starting line, who will compete to earn the title of “King of the Poets”.
The appointment is therefore set for tomorrow at 12.00, when the Race Committee will be able to start the races with the first warning signal.
